Loneliness and Schizotypy Are Distinct Constructs, Separate from General Psychopathology
Loneliness is common in youth and associated with a significantly increased risk of psychological disorders. Although loneliness is strongly associated with psychosis, its relationship with psychosis proneness is unclear. Our aim in this paper was to test the hypothesis that loneliness and schizotypal traits, conveying risk for schizophrenia spectrum disorders, are similar but separate construc...
متن کاملVoice discrimination and recognition are separate abilities.
Studies of brain-damaged subjects indicate that recognizing a familiar voice and discriminating among unfamiliar voices may be selectively impaired, and thus that the two are separate functions. Familiar voice recognition was impaired in cases of damage to the right (but not the left) hemisphere, while impaired unfamiliar voice discrimination was observed in cases with damage to either hemisphere.
متن کاملAre reduplicative paramnesia and clonal pluralization overlapping constructs?
Following the early description of delusion of doubles by Capgras and Reboul-Lachaux (1923), several variants of delusional misidentification syndrome (DMS) have been described in literature. The major DMSs besides Capgras syndrome include delusions of Fregoli (Courbon & Fail 1927), subjective doubles (Courbon & Tusques 1932) and intermetamorphosis (Christodoulou 1978). Murai et al. (1998) dist...
متن کاملAre alexithymia, depression, and anxiety distinct constructs in affective disorders?
OBJECTIVE the present study was undertaken to gain a better insight into the relationship between alexithymia, anxiety, and depression. Two hypotheses were tested: (1) whether a depressive or anxiety disorder is associated with an elevation of one or more dimensions of alexithymia; and (2) whether alexithymia is an independent construct from depression and anxiety in patients with depressive or...
متن کاملWorking Memory Capacity and Fluid Intelligence Are Strongly Related Constructs
The authors agree with P. L. Ackerman, M. E. Beier, and M. O. Boyle (2005) that working memory capacity (WMC) is not isomorphic with general fluid intelligence (Gf) or reasoning ability. However, the WMC and Gf/reasoning constructs are more strongly associated than Ackerman et al. (2005) indicate, particularly when considering the outcomes of latent-variable studies. The authors’ reanalysis of ...
